What does Shears do?
Shears reduced the total size of any Old Siege version by up to 200%-300%, while keeping the same functionality.
How does Shears achieve that?
Shears deletes unnecessary high quality textures that you probably might not even use. For example, if you play only on Low textures quality, what is the point of keeping all the higher quality textures? Or if you only play on Medium, why keep High and Very High texture files?
Shears offers a slider to let you decide which textures quality level you want to keep, alongside a real-time estimate of the disk space you will gain.
How to use Shears?
Using Shears is very easy:
- Click on "Select Siege folder" and select any Old Siege version folder
- Select the textures quality level
- Click on Shear And you are done!
NOTE: 'Shearing' a Old Siege version is not a reversible process, you will need to re-download the missing files by verifying the files in case you want the higher quality textures back
What happens if I run this on the Live build of Siege?
It works the same, it's not bannable but every time there's an update it will download all the missing files that you 'Sheared', but you can just run it again after updating.
